Over the years we’ve learned to expect celebs to look their best when they’re walking a red carpet, and most of the time they do. But as with any rule, there’s always exceptions. Today we thought we’d take a look at some of the worst red carpet appearances of all time. If anything, this should make you feel better about the time you dressed something really absurd to a party. Nobody’s perfect and we bet these celebs grimace when they look back at these choices they’ve made in the past.
1. Kate Hudson, Oscars 2001
We’ll admit, this isn’t the worst dress on this list of bad dresses, but back in 2001 Kate Hudson wound up on so many “worst dressed” lists it’s hard to count them all. It was probably the strange fringes that made her look a bit like a cowgirl. The hairdo really didn’t help the problem either.
2.Adele, Brit Awards 2016
We love Adele for her voice and her flair. She’s always so glamorous, in an old-Hollywood kind of way. She’s frequently dressed in long black dresses, and even if she travels out of dark colours and picks red, it’s still a lovely outfit that showcases her shape in the best way possible. What prompted her decide to wear this multicoloured monstrosity of a dress – we’ll never know.
3. Gabourey Sidibe, Golden Globes 2014
Why did Gabourey stylist choose to put her in such a tight, glossy dress? I mean, certainly there are clothes that would look way better on her. You know, ones that enhance her curves in a positive way, instead of clinging to her in all the wrong areas.
4. Rihanna, Grammys 2015
Remember the time Rihanna came dressed as a pink marshmallow to the Grammys? Yeah, that was bizarre. Especially considering the fact that Rihanna generally goes for the more edgy outfits, this was really out of character for her. But hey, she’s Rihanna, she can do whatever the heck she wants. And if she wanted to shake things up and dress like a pink marshmallow – so be it.
5. Riley Keough, Cannes 2016
There’s one thing I can’t stop thinking about when gazing at this outfit and that’s “who came up with this colour combination and felt it would look good?” Especially on someone like Riley? Not a fantastic option, that’s for sure.
6. Charlize Theron, Oscars 2010
This lavender outfit would’ve been just acceptable, and wouldn’t even stick in your memory if it wasn’t for the highly odd positioning of the two flowers on her breast. I mean that’s an odd way to bring attention to your boobs. Why not just wear a low cut dress instead, or show some cleavage. Anything would work better than this.
7. Nicki Minaj, Grammys 2012
To say this wardrobe choice was contentious would be an understatement. It’s not even the strange red dress/cape she’s wearing that surprised the crowd the most. Perhaps if she was dressed like that on her alone it wouldn’t be so horrible, but it’s the fact that she arrived up with a person dressed as the pope that made everyone go nuts with comments.
8.Lupita Nyong’o, Met Gala 2013
Was Lupita going for a Tiana vibe from Princess and the Frog that night? We’ll never know, but she ended up looking very strange. It’s even hard to call what she’s wearing a dress. It just appears like she got trapped in a net while falling from a tree.
9. Katy Perry, Met Gala 2017
I’m sorry, but the only thing that comes to mind is “WTF”. Like what is that thing she’s wearing? Is it a dress? Is it a cape? Is she just tangled in some crimson tulle? What’s going on here? Is she cosplaying as some crazy anime character that we’re not cool enough to know? And what’s that crazy thing on her head? So many questions. So few answers.
10. Faith Hill, Oscars 2002
Don’t know if Faith was attempting to replicate the rainbow or just look like a popsicle but either way that is a really unusual garment to wear to the Oscars, don’t you think? Most believe the Oscars to be a black tie occasion where you should dress properly in basic, but attractive attire. Oh well, if she wanted to stand out she certainly achiever her goal.
11. Uma Thurman, Oscars 2004
What the earth was Uma Thurman thinking when she donned this dress? Is it just me or does it just appear like she took a white and gold curtain, wrapped it over herself and decided to call it a dress? What a bizarre choice, Uma.
12. Sarah Jessica Parker, Met Gala 2013
Sarah Jessica Parker is usually ready for attempting something new and adventurous when it comes to fashion, but this was a touch over the top even for her. She literally ended up looking like a peacock in this dress, and the odd headgear only made it worse. Oh Sarah, why did you do this to yourself?
