A Scary Amount of Young People Are Going to Porn & Google for Sex Ed

According to a new Fumble poll, young people in their 20s and teenagers still don’t know where to go online for inclusive, safe, and reliable relationship and sexual education (RSE), five years after Pornhub launched a sex education site.

What Is Moral?

The UK-based organization for sexual health polled hundreds of individuals between the ages of 11 and 25. and discovered that while nearly 90% of respondents actively desired a “happy and healthy” digital destination offering RSE to young people, only 21% knew which educational content was trustworthy and/or safe. Young people are so compelled to turn to what they are familiar with – porn. Few people genuinely considered pornographic content helpful.

Although unfortunate, these results are not particularly shocking nor unique to the United Kingdom. This research shows the urgent need for more extensive and accessible sexual education and information for young people around the world. Because according to data from The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Furthermore, the length of time people waits to have sex is unaffected by education that focuses solely on abstinence. And regardless of whether such resources exist, young people are turning to the internet to try and educate themselves about it. However, almost everyone agreed that young people need online sex education that is trustworthy, judgment-free, and really inclusive — in other words, not just written for physically fit, cis-het people in monogamous relationships.
