Meet Melanie Gaydos, The Model With A Rare Genetic Disorder Breaking Fashion Boundaries

This unusually attractive model, who was born with ectodermal dysplasia, is making waves in the fashion world. Ectodermal dysplasia is a group of syndromes brought on by faulty ectodermal structures rather than a single syndrome. As a result of the corneal injury, there has also been some partial blindness.

Melanie Gaydos, 28, was born with this genetic disease and claims she initially believed she would become a loner. However, she has instead emerged as a fabulously inspirational role model in the fashion business.

She claims that at first, the fashion world treated her disrespectfully because of her odd appearance. Melanie’s disease affects her teeth, bones, pores and cartilage, leading to an extremely unusual and alien face. Only recently with her social media backing from her over 120k fans, she has received greater mainstream acceptance.

She refuses to change her features with dentures, fake hair or surgery, and shows everyone who sticks out from the crowd that being different is a blessing, not a misfortune. Melanie never believed modelling would be her major source of income – she hoped she might be a great artist one day, but a reclusive one that hid from society. We’re really thrilled she lets her brightness shine through to the public and her IG is so fierce.

She was first spotted by legendary photographer Eugenio Recuenco, after writing a fan letter to him. As a response, he flew her down to Berlin for a Rammstein music video he was filming. Now she’s in Seattle, taking a break from NYC, and has found peace and prosperity.

She appears like a wonderful sculpture made out of porcelain, and is clearly a work of art in herself. She either appears like a poetic Renaissance character, or a punk rock queen that you wouldn’t want to mess with. Photographers are enamoured with her, and for good reason!

Melanie says, “My body doesn’t annoy me in any way”. She did tried dental fixtures for a few months but decided to stick with her natural self in the end. “Having teeth just made other people around me feel better”. And isn’t it a lesson on confidence for all of us! Keep what makes you feel like you, not what makes those around you more comfortable since now you’re “normal.”

Her posing game is also at 110% – this photo with the horns is certainly channelling Alex McQueen alien colony queen here. Although several of her stances are quite suggestive (we’ve included some of the more family-friendly ones here), it is clear that she is at ease in her own skin and isn’t making an effort to conceal it.

She also totally embraces her alien vibes! We love how she has a bright green colour all over and an evil smirk on her face, as if to say, “Yeah, I’m from another planet, you want to mess with me? ”

Although we’re disappointed Melanie had to deal with any disrespect because she’s a #1 in the Bad Gyal category, we hope the fashion business understands how fortunate they are to have this stunning art graduate and are happy that it’s gradually becoming a little more inclusive.

Oh, and she requests that you refrain from bringing up her teeth. She claims that she is frequently asked how she manages to eat without teeth, but she compares it to those who run marathons without legs. She claims that perception is everything. After more than twenty years of settling into one way of life, adding dentures was more of a challenge for her because she had lived her entire life without them. As a side note, she eats a lot!
