The globe and the internet have been taken over by dalgona coffee. This brand-new, foaming coffee beverage is trending on social media. We’re fairly certain that TikTok is the platform where this crazy first began. There are innumerable images of it on Instagram, and people are doing various variations of it on Youtube. You’ve undoubtedly seen teenagers go bonkers about this stuff, and if you’re anything like me, you felt they were already hyper enough to not need any more coffee. There are many different ways to prepare coffee, so we’re not sure we needed another, but this one is unique.
It’s not for coffee snobs, to start with. Instant coffee is used. Yes, I am aware that is absurd. However, it makes logical that if you’re on quarantine and don’t have access to a coffee maker at home, this would be simple to brew. It appears to be all frothy, cool, and Instagrammable, but it’s really quite simple to create. To make the frothy combination, just combine equal parts of sugar, boiling water, and instant coffee. and, of course, milk of your choice. Because the goal is to make this appear to be an upside-down, foamy latte.
But how do you actually accomplish it? Well, there are plenty of recipes and instructions online. There are several established classics, as well as various modifications and experiments that people have developed based on flavor, texture, and what they have in their kitchens. But before we begin any experiments, let’s talk about the fundamentals.
You will need 2 teaspoons of instant coffee, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and 2 tablespoons of hot water to produce one serving of this frothy coffee. With a handheld mixer, combine everything until it becomes foamy and creamy. If you like, you can use a whisk, but it will take some time to reach that amount of froth. Apparently, 400 whips are required, but who has time to count that many? All we know is that you can count that as your upper body workout for the day because your arms will be exhausted.
After that, all you have to do is get a glass, fill it with ice, and add any milk you choose. Once the frothy coffee mixture is added, your Dalgona coffee is finished. If you like, you can reportedly also prepare it with hot milk. Additionally, some people top their desserts with toppings like cinnamon, cocoa, or sprinkles, but this takes the practice too far and we don’t want to delve into that.
