Every season, we accumulate gunk in our scalps. We exfoliate our face and lips, so why shouldn’t we do the same for our scalps? A scalp in need of a makeover can be caused by product buildup, dandruff, dead skin cells, and environmental factors including the weather. Scrubbing your scalp helps open pores and encourage future growth that is healthy. With our favorite inexpensive DIY scalp scrubs, you can keep your hair looking as lustrous as ever.
1. Aloevera scrub
1 tbsp sugar and 2 tbsp aloe vera
Aloe is a constant savior when it comes to hydrating while exfoliating. The sugar grains work as an exfoliant (brown unrefined sugar is optimal for all recipes). This mixture is also great for thickening fine hair or soothing an itch that won’t go away on the scalp. After thoroughly mixing, apply to a damp scalp, massage, and rinse.

2. Coffee wash
Olive oil and 1/4 cup used coffee grounds
After brewing your morning cup of coffee, save the grounds and thoroughly combine them with the olive oil. Your hair will grow more quickly as a result, and caffeine will truly stimulate your scalp in a manner that mint can. Gently scrub on, then rinse off and finish with shampoo.

3. Coconut lotion
Coconut oil and baking soda, 1 tablespoon each
As a clarifying scrub, massage this mixture into your scalp until it feels slick. If you have sensitive skin, omit the baking soda. However, using only coconut oil may leave a little sticky film on your face after washing, so you might want to try this scrub at night. and then shampoo.

4. Himalayan sea salt exfoliation
Warm coconut oil, 1/4 cup Himalayan pink salt, and 10 drops of your preferred essential oil
This should be blended until it becomes a spreadable paste. If desired, add an essential oil. Before applying this mixture to your hair, let it soak for 30 minutes. Pink salt easily removes dead skin cells and dandruff while promoting more hair growth. Additionally, it enables additional ingredient penetration.

5. Cinnamon body wash
1-teaspoon baking soda, 1.4-teaspoon cinnamon, and 1-tbsp. olive oil
You’ve been missing out on a cinnamon scrub if you’re seeking for a scalp detox. Everybody needs this tingling procedure at least once a month to get rid of the dirt and grime on our scalps. Again, replace the baking soda with something calming if you have sensitive skin.

6. Tea tree and cornmeal scrub
Tea tree oil, cornmeal, and clarifying shampoo
Yes, you can make a scrub from shampoo. Just make sure the shampoo is clarifying so you can clean your hair as thoroughly as possible. Natural antibacterial tea tree oil with a mild exfoliator and sugar substitute in the form of cornmeal. Almond meal, which has a similar texture, can also be used.

7. Aspirin scrub for oily or acne-prone skin
toothbrush + aspirin pills + 4 tbsp warm water
Put all of your tablets in a basin and cover them with warm water. Salicylic acid, which aspirin contains, is excellent for exfoliating skin and treating acne. So split your hair and lightly exfoliate your scalp if you frequently get scalp acne or oily skin. After rinsing, apply your regular shampoo and condition as usual.

8. Lemon scrub for deep cleaning
2 tablespoons each of sea salt, lemon juice, and olive oil
Pour all the ingredients for a potent exfoliating cleanser into a bowl. Lemon juice has a natural chemical exfoliator called citric acid, which functions as a mild peel to remove dead skin cells and oil. Your hair will shine thanks to this and the vitamins A and E in olive oil.

9. Brown sugar and oat scrub for delicate skin
3 tbsp conditioner with 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup rolled oats.
Oatmeal is the most underutilized pantry ingredient that your hair will adore if you have sensitive skin. It functions simultaneously as a scrub and a moisturizing scalp mask. This moisturizing (and delicious-smelling) scrub can be rubbed into hair if you have dry or itchy skin; just make sure to wash any cosmetics out of your hair first.

1/4 cup pink salt, 1 tablespoon coconut oil, 1 teaspoon honey, and 10 drops essential oil
